Hillenbrand Industries: Rolf stepped in as interim President and CEO of a $2.0 billion company for a turnaround and refocus of operations. He initiated major strategic and structural changes and recruited and transitioned the new permanent CEO. Hillenbrand is a publicly traded holding company for two major wholly owned businesses serving the health care and funeral services industries.

Bayer Healthcare: Rolf was appointed as CEO and Chairman, Executive Committee of Bayer HealthCare, to establish Bayer HealthCare as a separate sub-group of Bayer. He initiated a turnaround and portfolio alignment with several divestitures and acquisitions. Bayer HealthCare is a €9.1 billion company capitalizing on the advantages being part of the worldwide Bayer Group. Bayer HealthCare is comprised of five divisions: Animal Health, Biological Products, Consumer Care, Diagnostics and Pharmaceuticals.

Bayer Diagnostics: As the President, Rolf was responsible for completion of a turnaround and strategically strengthened the company through acquisitions and alliances. He completed the acquisition of Chiron Diagnostics in a $1.2 billion transaction. Post-merger integration was completed very rapidly, generating significant cost synergies and strengthening of market position. A subsequent transaction to acquire infectious disease technologies and a joint venture with the Matsushita Group in Japan has positioned Bayer Diagnostics as one of the leading companies in its industry.

Pharmacia Biosystems AB: Promoted in April 1990 to President and Chief Operating Officer, Rolf directed four operating companies in the Biosystems Group, as well as 24 sales and marketing subsidiaries internationally. Rolf established and successfully implemented a major restructuring program to improve profit and performance.
